After trying many brands of liquid lipsticks with different formulas and staying power, I figured out a good routine to prepare your lips for application. I know there are some brands with less long wear than they claim, but we just love the color and keep wearing it anyways. Here are a few products I use along with the fluid lipsticks I use.
- Scrub that Canvas: Prepare your lips especially if you have dry flakey lips I would suggest using a sugar scrub. I like using the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish sample I received from Sephora a while back. To combat the dryness of some liquid lipsticks start off your face routine by wearing a non-oily or non-petroleum lip balm while putting your face makeup on. When ready to apply your liquid lippie, wipe off any excess lipbalm then go on applying your lip pencil or liquid lip color.
- Stay put: I recently discovered the Urban Decay Ozone Lip Pencil suggested by a friend who wears regular lipstick so I went and bought the Urban Decay Ozone Lip Pencil along with the Urban Decay Multipurpose Primer Chubby Pencil (since it is chubby, me being lazy thought it be faster to use). It really helps with the colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks. Loving the color beeper I wore it on NYE and ate oily greasy foods, and to my horror found that my lipstick had shifted below my lips. With this product I feel like it stayed put better, and felt more comfortable on my lips.
- Greasy Mess: Liquid lipsticks look the best if there is no eating or drinking involved, but when you just have to eat *sarcasm* and it happens to be greasy tasty food. The baby lips Dr Rescue menthol version by Maybelline is a great on-the-go liquid lipstick eraser. No need to carry makeup wipes, coconut oil or cotton etc. This wittle baby helps when I am wearing a red lip or bold lipcolor and just feel like eating tacos. It is worth it to get clown lips after eating my favorite food. Just smear this all over, bloat with pressure on a paper towel then apply some more baby lips then wipe inward towards your teeth, repeat this till all is good and you can reapply your lipstick.
- If I am at home I would use the Neutrogena Oil-Free makeup remover to remove my red bozo the clown lips.
- Try to Apply 1 coat of the liquid lipstick, the heavier the consistency there can be a tendency to crack.
- With liquid lipsticks there is no need to smush lips together, for me if I do some dried parts can then come off in patches.
- Irritated Lips: With many new brands to the market; indie and beauty blogger brands, they may have natural or chemical formulations that may cause irritation to those who have sensitive lips. I read online that Carmex is a great healing and soothing lip balm. Back in the day I had a reaction from MAC lipstick palette and I wish I knew about this. Just a warning this stuff smells a little funny but feels great on the lips, I usually wear it to sleep.
